Port Douglas is a coastal town located in Far North Queensland, Australia. It is a popular tourist destination and is considered to be among the 100 Best Towns in Australia. Aside from its own natural and man-made attractions, the city is often visited for its close proximity to the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and famous attractions. It is also close to the Cape Tribulation rainforest. Tourists can easily find a tour company to bring them to these attractions – scuba diving and snorkeling are very popular at many portions of the reef.

The city is also well known for kitesurfing, an activity best done around June to August at The Four Mile Beach which is considered to be among the most famous beaches in this part of Queensland. Other popular attractions are the church of Saint Mary's by the Sea, Flagstaff Hill which offers panoramic views of the city, Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary, Marina Mirage which is a popular boardwalk with various shops and restaurants, and the Sunday Markets (Cotters Market) with its colorful craft shops and flea markets.

The town does not have its own airport; however, Port Douglas Heliport is available. Because there are no direct flights to and from the town, travelers can reach it by, first, flying to Cairns, then, by driving or traveling on land for about 60km. Most travelers go by this route. Travelers from New Zealand’s major cities – Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington – can reach Cairns within at least 8h 30min.
