Khartoum is a city in Sudan located where the waters of the two Nile rivers (White and Blue) unite to flow towards Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a tripartite metropolis divided by the great river. Khartoum is the capital of Sudan and the Khartoum State.

The biggest tourist draw is probably the National Museum of Sudan, the largest museum in Khartoum and all of Sudan. In the museum you will find two Egyptians temples of Buhen and Semna which were originally built by Queen Hatshepsut and Pharaoh Tuthmosis III respectively. Another immense museum is the Palace Museum, a few steps away from the historical Presidential Palace on Blue Nile Street.

The best places to shop in Khartoum are the markets. Just south of the Great Mosque, Soug Arabi is one of its largest markets right in the center of Khartoum. The market spans several blocks and divided into separate section. On section of the market is focus entirely to gold.

The two famous high streets in Khartoum State are Al Qasr Street and Al Jamhoriyah Street. Visitors can also go to its famous botanical garden in the Mogran district of the city.

Come to Khartoum for a feel of Africa. You can choose from several airlines, including Qantas, Etihad, Emirates and Jetstar, flying from Auckland to Khartoum. Quick stopovers will be made usually in Dubai, Sydney or Abu Dhabi for one stop and two stops flights from Auckland. Trips usually last more than 30 hours. Best deals can go as low as $1,200.00.
