United Airlines



United Airlines is one of the world's largest airlines and is US based. The airline operates transatlantic, transcontinental, and transpacific services to over 40 international destinations in several countries across Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. It also has a large domestic route across Western United State and will soon be flying to Africa (June 20). United is headquartered in Chicago and is the main subsidiary of the UAL Corporation and is a part of the airlines' group Star Alliance. The airline operates a fleet of 650 aircraft and offers international flights from its hubs in Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Washington DC and Chicago. The airline also flies from Auckland New Zealand and Australia to the United States West Coast.

United offers extensive air service in its three travel classes; the range consists of First class, Business class and Economy. The services provided by the airline in these classes comprise of assistance for disabled passengers, duty free shopping, luggage service, floral gifts, and catering service. In addition to these international first class flights have a 180 degree recline in selected aircraft; Business class travellers can use the United Lounges; while those flying Economy Class receive a complimentary meal service.

The frequent flyer programme offered by United is Mileage Plus. Members will earn extra miles by flying with United Airlines, which can be redeemed for travel to over 750 cities in more than 139 countries or other unique bonuses. Furthermore, the airline has Global Services, which is an invitation only program for its most valuable customers; and the Million Miles and Beyond programme which is for Mileage Plus members who have flown one million, two million and three million miles. United also has a programme called The Red Carpet Club which is its airport lounge programme that operates from 34 lounges in 27 major airports worldwide.

United extends its air services to over 260 leisure destinations and business cities worldwide including Cancún, Toronto, U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Maarten and Australia. The airline competes mainly with large carriers like Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines and American Airlines; and low-cost airlines like US Airways and Southwest Airlines.
