As one of the four airlines in the world to have been awarded a 5-star rating by Skytrax Malaysia Airlines is the national airline of Malaysia. The airline has South East Asia's largest fleet of 83 aircraft and operates from its main hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and its secondary hub at Kota Kinabalu International Airport and Kuching International Airport. Malaysia Airlines provides transpacific flights and maintains scheduled trips to the Middle East, Asia, and the Kangaroo Route.

The airline offers three travel classes on its international flight including First Class, Business Class or Golden Club Class and Economy Class, Business Class, while its domestic flights only offer Business and Economy classes. First class passengers get to enjoy to privacy in a curved shell flat bed seat on some of its aircraft. These passengers also get additional comfort in the electronic massage seat with the footrests. Business Class passengers are available on all Malaysia Airlines and features reclining seats with footrests and in- entertainment, while Economy class passengers will enjoy seats with lumbar support and footrests, in- entertainment and some competitive flight prices.

Malaysia Airlines frequent flyer programme has four levels of membership and is called Enrich. Enrich allow members to accrue points from a wide range of credit-card issuers, airlines, banks, and hotels from across the world. This programme allows its members to redeem their points for free flights, lounge access upgrades, and priority check in. The airline also has another frequent flyer programme called Grads (for Grads for Students) which allows students to earn points for their travel. Malaysia Airlines' Golden Lounge is available to Golden Club Class and First Class passengers, and members with Enrich Platinum or Gold membership.

The airline along with its subsidiaries Firefly, MASwings, and MASkargo fly's to over 100 destinations. With its main destinations including Bombay, Brussels, Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Bangalore, Bangkok, Athens, Bandar Seri Begwan, Beijing, London, Paris, and Beirut. The airline also operates transpacific flights to Los Angeles, via Taipei from Kuala Lumpur and its main competitors include Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, Singapore Airlines Limited and Thai Airways.
