Lufthansa Airlines is one of the most popular airways of the world and Europe's second largest airline. It is also Germany's largest airline and is the world's fifth-largest airline in terms of overall passengers. Lufthansa is based in Cologne, Germany, and was formed when Junkers Luftverkehr and Deutsche Aero Lloyd merged. The airline is one of the founders of the world's largest airline alliance, Star Alliance and operates a fleet of more than 430 aircraft. Lufthansa operates services to over 194 international destinations in 78 countries across Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia, and over 15 destinations in Germany from its hubs in Frankfurt (Frankfurt am Main Airport), Munich (Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport), and Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf International Airport).
Lufthansa Airlines offers two different types of flights European domestic and Intercontinental, which has their own different travel classes. Intercontinental flights feature three travel class Economy Class. Business and First class travel cabins while European domestic flights offer Business and Economy Class cabins. First class features all the luxury amenities that the number one airline in Europe should provide, this includes a 2-metre long flat bed that can also recline, spacious cabin layouts, fine dining and entertainment. Business class features a 2 metre long sleeper seat which can lie-flat and entertainment facilities. On Lufthansa's long-haul Economy Class passengers will receive free food, beverages and entertainment while on its short haul flights passengers will not get the entertainment option.
Miles and More is Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme, which has four levels Basic, Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle. With Miles and More members will earn miles by flying with Lufthansa or its Star Alliance partners, including LOT Polish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Luxair, Swiss International Air Lines and Croatia Airlines. In addition to these members can also earn miles by purchasing products from Lufthansa shops or by using Lufthansa credit cards. At Frankfurt Airport the airline also operates a First Class Terminal that only provides access to departing HON Circle members and First Class passengers.
Lufthansa Airlines subsidiaries include Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Austrian Arrows, British Midland Airways Limited, BMIbaby, BMI Regional, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Eurowings, Germanwings, Korongo, Lauda Air, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Italia, Lufthansa Regional, Swiss International Air Lines and Swiss European Air Lines. Lufthansa does not directly fly to Australia and New Zealand, however, together with its partners and subsidiaries Lufthansa operates to 410 destinations and departs from Wellington, Auckland, Napier / Hastings, Nelson, Wanganui and Christchurch Airports in New Zealand to Delhi, Birmingham, London, Zürich and Malta. The airline's top competitors include Air France, AMR Corp. and British Airways.
