Headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan Airlines is a part of the JAL group which is Asia's largest airline operator. Japan Airlines offers both international and domestic services from its two main hubs at Tokyo International Airport and Narita International Airport (Tokyo). The airline also has other hubs at Osaka's Kansai International Airport and Nagoya's Chubu Centrair International Airport. Japan Airlines operates a fleet of 187 wide-body and narrow body passenger planes.

The airline operates First, Executive (Business), Premium Economy and Economy class on all its international flights, while Japan Airlines offers only Economy class domestically. The airline offers its Economy passengers comfort and a wide variety of in-flight services. First Class passengers will receive either Skysleeper Solo Suites or Skysleeper seats, along with their choice of Western and Japanese cuisine. Premium Economy passengers are offered more food, beverages and other services in comparison to Economy Class, while Business Class are provided with Skyluxe seat or Shell Flat Seat, wines and a self service buffet.

Japan Airlines travel rewards programme is called JAL Mileage Bank (JMB). This programme has four membership levels, Crystal, Sapphire, Premier and Diamond. JMB has no membership fees and membersí benefits include priority check-in at Business Class and First Class desks, priority standby and lounge access is available to members holding Sapphire or higher membership levels.

Japan Airlines four subsidiaries include JALways, J-Air, Japan Transocean Air, and JAL Express. The airline is also a member of the Oneworld airline alliance and has a code-share agreement with Air New Zealand to operate between Tokyo, New Zealand, and Osaka. Japan Airlines operates to over 90 destinations across Europe, Oceania, Asia and the Americas with top destinations including Sydney, Tokyo, Buffalo, Chicago, Bergen, Birmingham, and Bangkok. The airline's main competitors are All Nippon Airways, Delta Air Lines, and Singapore Airlines.
